Transport WA GOV AU – Vehicle License and Motor Insurance Policy

by | Oct 29, 2023 | Case Studies

This is a practical approach to record the process taken to pay the vehicle license via a “Bill of Exchange”. It is for you to learn more about the process but it is by no means a guarantee. This information is for educational purpose only.

Step 1 – Sending BoE (no letter)

Bill of Exchange

I have been following Michael’s as well as Rick’s video instructions (if there are public links I could add them in here for people to watch) on how to create the Bill of Exchange.

Here is the result of it and I sent it via registered post to the Department of Transport WA on the 6th October 2023. Please note I have not sent any letter with it as they either were not available or not on my radar yet.

The letter that should be accompanied by the following letter: BoE Acceptance Cover Letter 1 – Authority to Process Bill of Exchange

Step 2 – Reminder email from Department of Transport WA

On the 29th Oct 2023 I found the following email regarding the payment in my inbox:

Subject: Account due reminder … do not reply

Your vehicle XXXXXXX is due on 07/11/2023.  To make payment via our website www.transport.wa.gov.au or phone pay on 1300655322, use the account number 011……. If you prefer to pay using BPAY®  then the biller code is 484634 and the reference number is 1500……..

Step 3 – What is my next step?

Since I did not send the initial BoE Acceptance Cover Letter 1 – Authority to Process Bill of Exchange with the Bill of Exchange (see image above) I consulted with the LIP expert for these affairs and he advised me to send out the BoE Rejection Letter 2 – Notice of Default & Opportunity to Cure via registered post.

I also received advise that I do not need to wait for a reply. If I see that the account has not been settled I can move to the next step after 10 days. So within around 30 days and no replies, you have received acquiescence through silence.

Step 4 – Received Notice of Expired Vehicle License and my response

The following notice has been received on the 5th December 2023.

I already have sent them the 2 previous letters (see above) via registered mail.

I am returning the Notice of Expired Vehicle License together with BoE Rejection Letter 3 – Notice of Default in Dishonour and Estoppel today on the 7th Dec 2023 via registered mail.

The following letter issued on the 15th December 2023 has been received on the 23th December 2023.

I have amended the letter as you can see (blue and red ink on the letter) and it is being sent back together with a Promissory Note via RETURN TO SENDER on the 28th December 2023.

The following letter issued on the 3rd January 2024 has been received on the 8th January 2024 in response to my reply – VOID AB IGNITIO and an additional Promissory Note to be settled on the 15th January 2024.

Step 7 – My response

I was just about to send them a Notice of Settlement & Contract Violation as I realised I made a mistake with the previous Promissory Note, I mixed the dates up.

So I decided to send them another NEW promissory note via registered mail with settlement date of the 02-02-2024 to follow up.
